Blueberry Yoghurt with Lemon and Cinnamon Granola

Super charge your day with your own flavoured yoghurt and homemade toasted müsli

Blueberry Yoghurt with Lemon

4 servings

  • 5 dl or 16.9 oz. of natural yoghurt (eco if you can find it)
    the yellow peel of a lemon
    1 package of frozen thawed blueberries,or fresh (250 gr or 8.8 oz.)
    2 bananas

Do this:

1. Mix yoghurt,lemon peel and blueberries in a bowl.
2. Put yoghurt in serving bowls and top it with bananas and granola (see below recipe)

Home made Cinnamon Granola

4-6 servings

4 dl or 13.5 oz. of oats
1 dl or 3.4 oz (shredded) coconut
1/2 dl or 1.7 oz. sunflower seeds (natural no salt)
1 dl or 3.4 oz. honey
1 tbs cinnamon
1 tbs hot water
1/2 dl or 1.7 oz. dried cut apple pieces
1/2 dl or 1.7 oz. raisins
1/2 dl or 1.7 oz. pumpkin seeds (natural no salt)
1/2 dl or 1.7 oz. linseeds

Do this:

1. Put the oven on 175° degrees,or 350 F.
2. Mix oats,shredded coconut and sunflower seeds in a bowl.
3. Stir honey,cinnamon and water in a bowl. Gently pour it over the oatmeal mix and blend well.
4. Spread the mixture on a bakingplate paper on a bakingplate. Roast in oven for 15-20 minutes. Stir mix after 10 minutes. Put plate back in oven. Let it cool off afterwards.
5. Mix with dried apple pieces,raisins,pumpkin seeds and linseeds. Keep in jar with a tight lid.

Quit smoking

Not only will you be improving your looks,health and finances,but you’ll stop having to go outside for a smoke when you’re all cosy in the pub or café. And if that’s not enough to convince you,then how about the fact that smoking actually slows down your circulation,meaning you get colder quicker? If we’ve swayed you and you do decide to quit,after just 2 weeks of smoke-free living your circulation will begin to improve and those stone cold hands and feet will begin to warm up.

Layer up

As well as wearing the obvious hat,scarf and glove combo,layer up elsewhere. You may think that a bulky jumper is the best option for keeping warm,but in fact it’s recommended that you wear lots of thin layers that way you can remove or add clothes when needed and you won’t swelter once you get inside. As an added bonus,layering is bang on trend right now. Try a thin fitted jumper,layered with a cashmere cardigan,tailored blazer,and wool coat. And if you find that your legs get neglected with all those layers on top,try wearing a pair of tights under your trousers to trap in the heat.

Exercise

Ok,so we’re not suggesting you get kitted out in your running shorts and vest and go jogging in the snowstorms,but a bit of exercise can do wonders to get the blood flowing and keep you warm. If the gym or an exercise class is not your thing,then simply try a bit of vacuuming around the house it will get your circulation going and almost instantly warm you up. It’s also recommended that you avoid sitting around for long periods of time,as this will make you colder,and remember that in general healthy,fit people can tolerate the cold better.

Eat a balanced diet

Eating a healthy,balanced diet will not only help you fight off that winter flu that’s undoubtedly coming our way,but it will also keep you warm. Your body needs the energy from food to keep itself from getting cold,so it’s understandable that what and how often you eat can make a difference. We recommend eating little and often,with at least one hot meal a day to give your body enough energy to regulate its temperature. Hot drinks are also a great way to keep toasty,whether its tea,hot chocolate or even Bovril.

Globetrotting beauty therapist back at The Chester Grosvenor and Spa

Globetrotting beauty therapist Lorna Wilson is back at work at The Grosvenor Spa after clocking up 25,000 miles travelling the world.

Lorna,from Bebington on the Wirral,has rejoined the five-star venue after four years working around the globe visiting 40-plus countries.

The 25-year-old,who attended Bebington High School,got her hairdressing and beauty qualifications at the Conway Park campus of Wirral Metropolitan College and spent two years working as a beauty therapist on Royal Caribbean cruise ships.

She returned to dry land in 2006 and landed her dream job at the luxury spa in the heart of The Chester Grosvenor.

She spent five happy months doing spa treatments before moving on to work for Virgin Atlantic as an upper class in-flight beauty therapist treating passengers,including VIPs and celebrities,30,000ft in the air.

Back on terra firma Lorna then spent some time working in the spa at Sir Richard Branson’s Moroccan mountain retreat before moving to London to take up a post as a therapist in Liz Earle’s flagship store in Chelsea.

Wanderlust struck again and Lorna moved down under to supervise a spa in a Club Med resort in the Whitsunday Islands.

After four years of working away from home Lorna’s back in the north west and has rejoined The Grosvenor Spa as a beauty therapist.

Lorna said:“It’s lovely to be home and back working at The Grosvenor Spa again. It’s also nice not living out of a bag anymore!

“I loved working abroad. I met people from around the world and I think all that travelling has made me a better beauty therapist because you pick up new techniques and have a better cultural awareness.

“I was really lucky to get the job at The Grosvenor Spa in the first place because it’s one of the best spas in the north west. I have been even luckier to return from working abroad and a position to be available so I can return to work there.”

Lorna is living at home with her family in Bebington and as well as working four days at week at The Grosvenor Spa is currently training to be a beauty therapy teacher at Wirral Metropolitan College.

Spa manager Karen Hardman said:“We are thrilled that Lorna is back working with us and a lot of Lorna’s regular clients are delighted too.”
